DESCPRIPTION OF PROJECT New town planning measures, structural changes as well as developments of the traffic system in the city of Weil am Rhein necessitated an update of the traffic master plan established in 1992. In a partial revision of the master plan, most urgent matters in the fields of public transport and motorised individual traffic were evaluated. This part of the project was elaborated in cooperation with PTV AG from Karlsruhe. The local public transport network was evaluated (incl. passenger survey) and suggestions for improvement were elaborated. The Consultant furthermore analysed the effects of an extension of the tramway network between Basel and Weil considering as well the corresponding Park & Ride system. The traffic model for motorised individual traffic was updated (adaptations of the road network, update of traffic load by means of traffic counts) and formed the basis for an analysis of the effects of different design suggestions and the development of possible traffic control measures. Following a performance analysis, suggestions for the load relief of highly frequented intersections in the road network could be developed. The results of the traffic model and the performance analysis were included in the assessment of effects of retail development concepts. PROJECT COMPONENTS AND TECHNICAL DATA
